Using the SUN to HEAL your BODY
It’s hard to imagine that something over 93,000,000 miles away can be of any benefit to us. However, nothing can be further from the truth when considering the benefits of the sun.
The sun plays a critical role in preventing some diseases. Most notably, skin cancer. Studies showed that skin cancer rates actually went up when sun screen was introduced which clearly demonstrated that sun screen was the cause and not the naturally occurring sun.
Studies also showed there were lower cancer mortality rates in populations who had higher exposure to UVB (Ultra violet B) rays from the sun. To be clear, yes these are the rays that can burn us. Solution? Lather up in coconut oil which actually helps our body absorb vitamin D from the sun easier so you won’t have to be out for as long.
More Vitamin D in Less Time = Less Chance of Being Burnt!
You’ve heard of Vitamin D right? If you have, then chances are your taking, or have at least heard about D3 drops. Each drop contains 1000IU of vitamin D but when you compare that to laying in the sun for just 15 minutes your body absorbs around 20,000IU of Vitamin D.
I know which one I would prefer.
Another benefit associated with exposure to the Sun was a corresponding strengthening of the bones. This is again due to the ability of the Sun to provide Vitamin D for the body.
Another fact that I absolutely love about all this is that the sun actually helps us build lean muscle! It helps boost testosterone levels and your metabolism which then help build out lean muscle.
Here are just a few other benefits, list style:
Gives your skin a healthy complexion
Kills viruses and bacteria present on and around your skin
Increases your white blood cells, giving you a stronger immune system
Gives your blood more oxygen meaning better circulation through your body
Can relieve PMS symptoms and balance hormones
Lowers arthritic pain
Builds strong bones
We are unable to produce our own vitamin D, so with so many health benefits, getting some exposure to the sun is absolutely essential.
As with anything, too much of a good thing can be counterproductive. This is especially true when it comes to sunlight exposure.
Two very simple rules you can follow:
Always use coconut oil on your skin
15-20 minutes on your stomach and 15-20 minutes on your back is all you need.
Be sun smart and you will be sun safe.
